It's been a little while since we have seen any lists from the NPD Group on retail PC game sales. The organization decided to no longer release their weekly top 10 PC game sales lists to the media but today they did release their top 20 best selling PC games for the month of September in retail stores.It's not a shock to learn that NCsoft's fantasy MMO Aion was the number one best selling PC game for the month as it was already selling well in pre-orders online. The Collectors Edition made it to number four for the month. EA's The Sims 3 continues to do well in the number two slot while Cryptic Studios' super hero MMO Champions Online made a strong debut at number 3. Blizzard's MMO expansion World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King made it at number four.One interesting note before we get to the list itself. The Elyseans of Elyos have lived rich full lives basking in the sunlight, while the Asmodians reside in the harsh and dark environment of Asmodae. To get there, your character progresses from the starter area as you learn about your destiny. However, it will be almost 15 levels later when you finally take flight in the Abyss. I wasn't fond of having to fight other players for respawning items, especially boss spawns on crowded channels. I still like the World of Warcraft system of whoever strikes first gets the kill. Nothing is more frustrating than waiting on a boss and not receiving credit for the kill because your group failed to tally the most damage. wow gold The level grind in Aion does sometimes feel very long. With a level cap of 50, reaching it will be an accomplishment. Seeing the more than 2 million experience points needed to reach level 25 seemed daunting, but by the time you level you can feel some satisfaction, at least until the experience bar clears itself for the next level grind. Aion's popularity and success in the Asian market is no fluke. This is a rich, immense new world of MMO gaming that should continue its success in North American and European markets. It will be very friendly to those players looking to crossover from console RPGs to a PC MMO. Imagine there's this guy – Joe Smith – and he really loves gaming. He's looking forward to Borderlands and he has a console, so he's ready to go. But Joe Smith isn't really a social gamer. In fact, he's not really into multiplayer gaming – so games like Left 4 Dead are a bit lost on him. Here's his conundrum: Borderlands is a fantastic shooter – when you're playing it co-operatively. But as a single-player game, it feels like something's missing. So should Joe pick up Borderlands, knowing he's probably not going to get the superior experience? The short answer is, hell yes he should – and what's more, it's high-time he strapped on a headset and made some friends. Borderlands borrows heavily from several genre-leading titles; World of Warcraft is arguably the biggest source. Like WoW, Borderlands aims to be a social experience that pulls you and three friends into an alien world that's ripe for the looting. It has quests, dungeons (of sorts) and it's really designed from the ground-up to cater to multiplayer gaming ...and, like WoW, if loot, stats and teamplay aren't really your thing, you might need to look elsewhere. Assuming you've read this far, though, we're guessing you're keen. And good for you – Borderlands is a rock-solid experience that confidently blends the best elements of massively-multiplayer RPGs with wholly accessible shooter mechanics.
